New editions of The Paris Collection & The Dollar Album to be released 2010 ?!?

In 2010 Cherry Red will be issuing, via their 7Ts label, remastered and expanded editions of The Dollar Album and The Paris Collection.

That is what is says according to wikipedia and as always you never believe them on there, so i called up Cherry Red and asked them and the lady says possibly March 2010, if that is true then i would get a great present just a month before i am 30 lol

Alan you know anything about this ?

Original Bucks Fizz Splash Tour

Having seen the show in Blackpool last night I can safely say it is the BEST Bucks Fizz show, of any lineup, that I've ever seen.

There are 3 dates left - Sevenoaks, Dunstable (?) and Kings Lynn. I highly recommend getting tickets if you are local to any of those areas. SUCH a great night.

Must say as well that Stephen Fox, whose band Plasticine are supporting, has a phenomenal voice. In all the time I have known him I had no idea he could sing so well.

Totally great show and two great bands. Well worth the ticket price

Leonard Cohen (and Dollar)

I have never been a great Leonard Cohen fan I like/d his earlier songs and not much else - but a couple of days ago attended his remarkable concert in Tel Aviv, where he performed in a football stadium before an audience of some 50,000 adoring fans. For a 75-year-old to sing faultlessly and passionately without wavering for some three-and-a-half hours is some achievement. And I was thinking during the evening you could think because each song was listened to in reverential silence that if this guy could do it and perform so extraordinarily well, what is stopping David and Thereza doing the same, not at 75 but just in their early fifties. Well, obviously, theres considerably more that divides our favourite warring duo than unites them but, perhaps, one day.

Shooting Stars - 30th anniversary

In the week beginning Monday, 3rd September 1979 Dollar's debut album "Shooting Stars" was released, featuring all three singles so far, plus some eagerly awaited new tracks. The public were cautious at first, but as "Love's Gotta Hold On Me" continued to climb the Top Ten, the album began to sell more and more healthily - eventually climbing into the Top 40 itself. This was a respectable showing for an album by an unproven act in a field largely made-up of rock and new-wave acts. The album itself does not follow the "easy option" of merely including bubblegum pop. By the inclusion of experimental tracks like "Star Control" and the geninuely moving ballad "I Need Your Love," David and Thereza gave an early signal of the pop genius that would be more thoroughly realised in "The Paris Collection" and ultimately "The Dollar Album."

Here is the journey of "Shooting Stars"' seven-week chart life. Happy 30th birthday!!

Love's Gotta Hold On Me - 30th anniversary

Well, here we are again already!

Dollar's third single was released in the week commencing Monday 6th August 1979 just as "Who Were You With In The Moonlight" was exiting the charts. The charts in those days were announced on Tuesdays, thus its first appearance was on Tuesday 14th August with the chart's "official" date being Saturday 18th August (the week-ending date).

This track was - again - quite different to the singles before it: firstly it was a ballad, secondly it was penned by David and Thereza themselves, and thirdly whereas "Moonlight" had been a David lead, this single allowed Thereza to step forward and claim the limelight for three minutes.

After a couple of weeks on sale, the single caught on with the record buying public and must have delighted David and Thereza when it became their first Top 10 hit. As singles sales were so high in 1979 it looks likely that "Love's Gotta Hold On Me" may well have been their biggest selling single of all, possibly selling somewhere in the region of 350,000-400,000 copies in the UK. It set up the release of the "Shooting Stars" album a few weeks later perfectly, and I'll also be looking at the album's chart progress separately in the coming weeks.

But for now, week by week, here is the single's chart journey along with its very strong competitors.
